what is in a...

name?

a lot.

some time ago i went to a (let's say) food establishment that when you place your order they take your name, and then call out your name when the food is ready to be picked up.  well this food establishment stopped that.  i received a 'buzzer' to let me know that my food is ready.  i didn't feel welcome.  i often looked forward to giving my name, and having them call it out.  it just made me feel welcome in their restaurant.

conversely; some time ago i went to a bar to meet a friend for some drinks.  i started a tab, and the bartenders (i was there during a shift change) both called me by my name as i ordered drinks, and to just check in on me.  i just really made me feel welcome at the bar.  now granted this was during the week, so they weren't that busy, but still.

so if you're in business try and use the person's name as much as possible.  needless to say i'm looking forward to going back to that bar, and not that food establishment.

so as i sit...

here in my office, and look around (never mind the grading that is piling up); but the knowledge, the thought, the ideas, the perspectives, the opinions, the enveloping aroma of the bean (coffee if you didn't get it)...

i wonder why i spend time on this thing...it's nothing, no substance, no virtue, meaninglessness.

if it wasn't for email (which for some reason i think i need for school) i wouldn't have one of these things...

so why am i still here?

i'm out...

album review...

or at least half of an album review of metallica's death magnetic, because i was only able to get through half of it before i had to turn on some real metal.

i downloaded it off of itunes this weekend. michelle listened to it before i did, and she gave it a thumbs up.

i however...gave half of it a listen. upon initial view, ten songs all over six minutes except one. not that i care how long a song is; however this does play into my review/critique. let's answer the first question...is it better than saint anger? yes. heavier. the drums and bass are more 'together', and in sync with one another. although the bass doesn't stand out like on the black album or their earlier work. which is too bad, because robert is an awesome bassist. listen to his work with suicidal tendencies...amazing.

guitar wise...too 'riffy'. the riffs change and mutate for no apparent reason. it seems like they got bored during the writing of the song, came up with a new riff that sounded good with the song, and through it in, and the song expands in length. they're trying to cram too much into one song.

i am getting weary of jame's vocal style. it is getting repetitive. and lyrically...sub-par. i mean i know metal lyrics are sometime cheesy (hell i love manowar), but come on. some of the things coming out of jame's mouth, was like he's not even trying. and do we really need an unforgiven three?

b minus at best.
