stereotypes...

come up often. with the cover of vogue & lebron; which i find interesting that it is under the sports section, but anyway...this is just proving my point that i wanted to make...

this week i watched two horror movies (the hills have eye ii, and resident evil extinction); and in both movies the black man died, and the hot white chick made it out 'alive'. i put that in quotes, because we are able to make the comparison to the original texas chainsaw, where the woman (i forgot her name, but she always leaves an impression on me for obvious reason, but not to be mentioned here) gets away, but she is mentally messed up.

and we as americans enjoy this ending much more. in reference to these movies, where the woman gets out, but she is mentally scared for life. in the 'hills have eyes ii' the one of the women that got out was raped by one of the cannibals. this then becomes my question...what if she is with child from the cannibal that raped her? what is that going to do to her?

a counter point to this is the movie 'the descent' (if you haven't seen it, it is a must see). i watched the directors cut, and the directors commentary, and for the american audience they (the american audience) preferred the ending of the woman getting away too, even after such horrific experiences happening to her. the ending he (the director) wanted, and did shoot for the european audiences is that the woman stayed trapped, but was in a sense, at peace with it. she knew she was going to die, but still had her mind about the whole thing; which i believe to be a much more 'solid' ending, than the woman who gets away, and is messed up for the rest of her life.

so what's the point of all this? let the black man live, and let the hot white woman keep her mind. this just tells you something about the audience watching public.

olympic protests...

are happening during the lighting ceremony of the torch. also, from what i understand (although i couldn't find a page on it) is that they are closing the himalayan mountains to climbers, because of possible protest of the games. his holiness the dalai lama is threatening to resign if the violence continues in tibet. the violence that the tibetan people are using against the chinese occupation.

what the hell is happening? i can't help but wonder if all this is coming to a head, because of the up coming olympics. simple because of communist beijing. i don't remember, but did any of this type of stuff happen during the olympic games in communist russia?

side notes...

pelosi talked with the dalai lama about our (americans) recognizing the oppression of the tibetan people from the chinese, and how we ought to do something, for if we do not then how are we able to speak of freedom.

we also hear that we ought to do something about darfur and the genocide that is happening there.

however we as americans (and americans) get criticized about what is happening in the middle east.

if we are not fighting evil in the middle east, then what would we be doing in darfur and tibet? would we not be fighting evil? the liberals of america believe that we should not impose our will on other countries; however isn't that just what we would be doing if we went to darfur and tibet? don't get me wrong, i'm not saying that we should not help, but lets call a spade a spade, and move on with it.

man, i did not intend to go this route...

i digress; is the only reason to protest because beijing is going to be in the international spotlight? to 'get the word out' as it were? is this also the only reason for the escalation of violence, now? if the dalai lama does step down, what would that mean to tibetan buddhism? they would have no leader. at all. i don't need to/want to get into the dalai lama as a figure/person, and what he means to tibetan buddhism, but that would be huge. it's not like, if the pope said 'i'm done', and we just elected another one, and move on. totally different here.

this doesn't sit well.

i remember...

method of destruction (m.o.d.) back in the day. when they first came out with u.s.a. for m.o.d.; a classic metal/punk album. billy milano has always told it how it was. their work is a must in any collection of metal. 'rhythm of fear', 'devolution', and if you are able to get your hands on it 'surfin m.o.d.' are must listen. once i get a turn table...surfin isn't coming off.

this is a song off of their album 'the rebel you love to hate'...enjoy...

celebrate it...

and wa has it right...stay away from green beer. rather celebrate a true national holiday.

evacuation day; which celebrates the day in seventeen seventy-six when the british left boston.

a major stepping stone in our nations history.

i am not an immigrate. i am an american.

so raise a sam adams, and make a toast to those who fought for the independence of our nation. if it was not for them; how would you be living?

happy evacuation day.

new sin has been...

added. the other day the vatican as added new sins for us. they added the polluting of the earth as one, and genetic manipulation.

i love how the vatican is able to just change the rules of the game mid stream. as if god himself said, say eight thousand years later, 'oh, i forgot to mention...'

what am i able to 'buy' are the ten commandments. right from god. great. fine. i am also able to buy into the two 'new' ones that jesus gave us. hey, that's the son of god. i can buy that too. but this i cannot buy.

speaking philosophically this all just goes back to plato's euthyphro.

the environment fine. whatever. god said in the bible that the earth is for man to do what he wants. so now we can't? nice. just another contradiction within the catholic church. it's not like this is something new.

however this 'genetic manipulation' thing. how far or short does this go? what is genetic manipulation? are they just trying to stay away from stem cells here? even though this research is able to help humanity, or just allow use to 'rot' in our misery. is it to stay away from cloning? which i really don't care about cloning to begin with. however; what i do care about is possible 'manufacturing' of organs. i believe that is a tremendous step in biomedical research. to 'harvest' parts for those who need them. kidneys. lungs. hell, even hearts. can you image what that would do for organ transplant recipients? wow.

are they trying to keep away from 'playing god'?

now on the 'short' side of things...is taking blood pressure medication 'genetic manipulation'? is this not a form of 'playing god'? manipulating my own biological make-up.

how far is the vatican willing to go with this? shouldn't we be concerned with helping humanity, and do whatever it takes to elevate suffering in the world? if i have the ability to elevate such a thing, then i believe it becomes my moral duty to do such a thing.
